How to Smell Good All Day

Saturday, January 20, 2018
Smelling good doesn't come naturally. Smelling bad does. To smell good all day there are many small steps that, put all together, will make you smell like a fresh load of laundry (or whatever you think smells nice).

Besides, it is our duty, as charitable human beings, to not smell atrocious. It is actually considered offensive to stink and create discomfort for others. So...why not smell delightful!?

I mean, we all know that one person that smells like a breath of fresh air. Well, it's not an accident. They put an effort to smell nice.

In this quest to smell nice all day we must also keep in mind not to overdo it. Just as smelling bad is offensive, dousing ourselves with perfume can easily become offensive too. Some people have sensitive noses.

Here are some personal tips that I've learned to, you know, be on of those people that smell nice all day. I say "all day" because it's easy to spray some perfume on and smell amazing for an hour, but to smell good all day... now that takes years of experience to figure out.

How to Smell Good

Habits

There are some actions that we need to repeat on a regular basis to stop from giving out a bad body odor. It's simple but it will require discipline.

  • Shower: Doing this on a daily basis is best. A simple soap is all you need to stay clean.
  • Shave and Exfoliate: In the shower, you should exfoliate your underarms carefully to take away any bacteria. Shaving your underarms is one of the best ways to prevent them from smelling bad. Do this for every shower you take.
  • Wear Clean Clothes: It's totally fine to wear clothes more than once before washing them, but when you're looking to smell especially nice fresh laundry is ideal.
  • Antiperspirant: If sweating is a problem, wear antiperspirant before going out. It is not ideal to keep it on all day so I do not recommend to put it on before going to sleep. The best antiperspirant that has worked for me is the Nivea Stress Protect Stick. I pack on a few layers to keep my underarms as fresh as possible.

Products

How to Smell Good All Day

Personally, the best way to maintain a nice smell all day is to use products that last long. Some products smell amazing but their fragrance fades in a couple of hours or even minutes. Also, layering products is a good idea to make sure you smell good as a whole.

  • Shampoo and Conditioner: These products are nice to smell in the shower but usually their scent doesn't last. Just pick anything that you like yourself.
  • Leave-in Conditioner: Now putting on leave-in conditioner is the way to keep your hair smelling great. My favourite is After Party by Bead Head. It all depends on your personal preference. After you shower, just put on some of the leave-in conditioner.
  • Moisturizer: The best way to smell good all day is to use a body moisturizer. Body creams are my perfumes. I find that the thicker and stronger it is, the longer it will last. Some of the best moisturizers are the Body Creams from Bath and Body Works. I moisturize my whole body with them and they keep you smelling good all day. I've gotten the most compliments when I wear Vanilla Bean Noel. It is a seasonal product but Warm Vanilla Sugar is kinda similar and it is available all year. Also, a favourite of mine is A Thousand Wishes.
  • Perfume or Body Spray: If you have a favourite perfume, you can totally use it instead of a fragrant moisturizer. But if you think you've packed on just enough scents because of all the tips from above, body spray is more appropriate because it is lighter.
